Wine Clubs

I'd be interested in sharing information on optimizing the activities of wine tasting societies and wine clubs--both those attached to wineries and third party clubs. It may be the other groups will cover this topic, but if not...

Membership base apart from OWC

I'm currently utilizing meetup.com which has generated 550 members and growing in the Bay Area [ we also publish occasonal tasting results on our blog]. The Meetup.com phenomenon presents considerable opportunities for a coordinated Wine 2.0 enterprise: 85,000 wine enthusiasts gather in 450 wine.meetup.com groups around the country and, indeed, around the world.

The granddaddy of all such organizations is The Wine Society in England, founded in 1874 as a cooperative. Their walk around tastings in various cities have attracted over 15,000 members to 120 events.

Greetings from Chile. We created the "Circulo del Vino de Andes Wines" or "Wine Circle of Andes Wines" couple of years ago and we have accomplished the interest from international wineries from Italy, Argentina, Greece and California to send samples. Now, we want to develop the activities where people bring a wine to a certain tasting.

I agree that Meetup is a great way to bring wine drinkers together. The Albany, NY wine meetup has over 300 members.
