Wine Clubs

I'd be interested in sharing information on optimizing the activities of wine tasting societies and wine clubs--both those attached to wineries and third party clubs. It may be the other groups will cover this topic, but if not...

I'm currently utilizing meetup.com which has generated 550 members and growing in the Bay Area [ we also publish occasonal tasting results on our blog]. The Meetup.com phenomenon presents considerable opportunities for a coordinated Wine 2.0 enterprise: 85,000 wine enthusiasts gather in 450 wine.meetup.com groups around the country and, indeed, around the world.

The granddaddy of all such organizations is The Wine Society in England, founded in 1874 as a cooperative. Their walk around tastings in various cities have attracted over 15,000 members to 120 events.

The 2nd Annual Galveston Island Food & Wine Festival is to be held April 14-17, 2011 in historic uptown Galveston’s Saengerfest Park.  Wine aficionados will have the opportunity to sample a variety of delicious foods and wine, mingle with expert winemakers and fellow enthusiasts, and enjoy a most pleasurable atmosphere filled with music and dancing. This years festival theme, Around The World, will create an unforgettable ambiance that will leave the crowd longing for a new escape.  Additional wine vendors, novelty art and jewelry vendors, and the traditional Bailliage of La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Dinner will be just a few exciting features at this years event.  Hope you can visit us on the coast!

Hello Everyone!

I am offering an opportunity to do business in the wine promotion.

Recently, I launched a web based service offering exporters an opportunity to promote their domains and products to more than 1200 russian importers and distributors!
This service is a newsletter type service that is sent on a regular basis to our 1200 contacts.

I'm looking for individuals or firms which strong interest in wine to promote this service in their country (wine producers and merchants).

No investment involved - only time and motivation.
Financial support for advertising.
Attractive commission rate on sales.

For more information on this service, go check our website (page in English):
www.apfr.ru/services and us an email at marketing at apfr.ru

Looking forward to cooperate with you!

I would say the whole of OWC isn't active!

Doesn't look like this group is still active .....

But this shows the difference in meaning between USA and UK where Wine Club is concerned. In the US Wine Clubappears to mean a commercial organisation whose aim is to sell wine on a subscription basis, whereas in the UK a Wine Club would be most often a group of likeminded people who get together to taste wine.

Only UK wineselling Wine Club I can think of is The Sunday Times Wine Club, operated by the Laithwaites company. STWC started and mostly operated as a mail order shop - and now online, as does The Wine Society.

Yes the Wine Society hold tastings to showcase their wine, but then so does every other company that sells wines.

Hi,

I wanted to introduce our wine club to those of you who may not know us. We have been in business since 1992. We offer only award-winning, boutique wines from small, family-owned wineries. In all but one of our clubs, the selections are always 90+ rated wines. We have five different clubs to choose from including a Pinot Noir club and an International Club. Visit our site to learn more: http://www.goldmedalwine.com

I'm curious if wineries have seen a substantial drop in wine club sign-ups and wine club retention since September. Has the economic slow down hurt wine clubs? Wine club sign-up rates in Sonoma County have averaged around 5% of customers entering a tasting room. Does anyone have data to suggest a change in that number?

We have a product that I think would work great for a wine club.

It's a wine flavor and taste wheel you put on the outside of the bottle so drinkers can "see" what your wine tastes like before they buy, called the Vinogramme.

http://biz.vinobilia.com/vinogram_index.en.html

It could help a wine club zero in on what club members might be interested in based on what they've already tasted. It works well to help people learn about their own tastes.
It's also tied into our online community so drinkers can learn about a winery's story in one click.

Here is a great tool for wine club managers to use. It also is a very powerful marketing and branding tool for those that want to further their branding reach.

I think you'll have to build up your membership base by focusing on general wine events without reference to B Wine Cellars. People will shy away from a strictly promotional meetup.

I am new to OWC and I saw that you were writing about meetups. I just started a wine meetup group at http://wine.meetup.com/718/. I haven't had many RSVP's so far but I am hoping that will change as the date gets closer. Maybe because I am from one winery doing a tasting with just our wines as opposed to having a tasting with several different wines?

China Market

Our company is opening channels into China for exporting wine. We are able to tap an unique market for distribution but also delving into the regular market. High volume is mandatory, but we have an order for a smaller exploratory shipment. If you have a slate of bottles that you think would work well, please contact me if your wineries want to take part. Looking for low end and high end bottles. State-side or abroad. I would be happy to answer any questions via…

Looking to buy cheap wine for China

Hello!

My company is based out of California and specializes in exporting and distributing wine to China.

We are currently looking for any Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot wines that fall in the $1-4/bottle price range for a client that wants 1 small order and one much larger bulk order.

If anyone with bottled and labeled wine in this price range and is interested in exporting to China don't hesitate to contact me. Also, if you just have general questions,…
