FohBohWine - The Wine Community

The Voice of the Wine Industry

Everyone already knows about forums. They are one of the oldest mechanisms on the web. Wine forums have been popular right from the beginning, so why would anyone need any guidelines about using a forum?

Judging from the civil and informative discussions on OWC, there is only one thing I can think of that needs saying.

When someone asks a question, answer the question, first.

Build the trust and respect of OWC peers by posting on-topic replies, answering questions and being the resource that you know you are. Over the years, I've invariably learned more about the people I most admire by reading what they have to say. This is generally not about them but about their experiences and knowledge offered in answer to queries. Self-promo isn't appropriate in a forum post unless the context is something like "what do you do?".
Be a little discreet about your shiny new website, or the consulting business you just started, even when you answer a query that directly falls in your area of expertise. Answers first. Personally, I prefer direct contact if I think there's a good enough reason for it. In other words, if someone has a specific project, I would comment publicly only if I had something to contribute, but I would attempt to contact the person directly to discuss their project if I thought there was business to be done. My company's most important customer was acquired by answering a question on a forum and then immediately contacting the person via direct email at their request.

General public answers and opinions are always appreciated. It's about sharing, not blaring.

This said, OWC is a professional network. Recommendations are important, so by all means, post these where appropriate. Your own credibility will be built on your recommendations. If you're into social networking and media, you will already have heard about agents of trust. Speaking of social networking, there are many great resources available free to help you further understand new media.

If you are in doubt about the rules, please refer to the Community Code of Conduct

Some very important rules are highlighted there. Here is a short excerpt:

* Keep all arguments courteous and avoid personal attacks.
* Forum moderators reserve the right to remove any post at their discretion. If the abuse is habitual we can also disable or ban any user from the network at our discretion.

It is rare that people are banned, but it does happen occasionally, mostly for "spammy activities" such as announcing dating sites on others' comment pages.

China Market

Our company is opening channels into China for exporting wine. We are able to tap an unique market for distribution but also delving into the regular market. High volume is mandatory, but we have an order for a smaller exploratory shipment. If you have a slate of bottles that you think would work well, please contact me if your wineries want to take part. Looking for low end and high end bottles. State-side or abroad. I would be happy to answer any questions via…

Looking to buy cheap wine for China

Hello!

My company is based out of California and specializes in exporting and distributing wine to China.

If anyone with bottled and labeled wine in this price range and is interested in exporting to China don't hesitate to contact me. Also, if you just have general questions,…
