About my company:
Tenuta Poggio Verrano represents the concrete realization of a project started in October 2000: to make Maremma Toscana the cradle of wine so high in quality as the territory where it is produced.
Dròmos, intensive and elegant red wine, intends to reflect the beauty as well as the culture of Maremma Toscana.
Wisely integrated in the shining and rural surrounding landscape, the vineyards are 27 ha (67 acres) in size with density of 6700 vines per ha (2700 per acre) grown with low spurred cordon.
Rocky soil of calcareous and clayey nature, height between 170 and 300 m. on sea level, south-southwest exposure and 15 km distance from the Mediterranean sea represent ideal conditions for indigenous varietals such as Sangiovese and Alicante together with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot perfectly integrated along the Tuscan coast since many decades.
The winery is the other important quality component. Built following gravity flow principle, it is fully underground to respect surroundings and covered by vines. In its building modality and shape – as shown by the long passage crossing the cellar all the way from the entrance – it reminds essentiality and harmony typical of Etruscan style.
In such a modern and functional winery we do hand harvest to be followed by temperature controlled fermentation and slow maceration in small inox vats with plunging the cap; then Dròmos is left to mature in barriques where the malo-lactic fermentation takes place; during the whole process, both grapes and wine move for gravity
Finally, Dròmos refines in bottles for at least one year before being commercialized.
