Newton Vineyard

The week Jaime Davies died another great Icon of the Napa Valley passed away, Sir Peter Newton.

I was up to this winery with the controller for Moet Hennessey this last Saturday, M-H now owns the winery. But let me back up about forty to fifty years, Peter was originally from the white cliffs of Dover in Britain. He literally came from the house with blue shutters that has been painted and photoed in ads for the place.

In search of Hilside Cabernet!

I did a tour that was after my own heart this week. Starting out in Napa we headed first to Howell Mountain and the place I recently wrote about, Ladera Vineyards

Our Mission

The Napa Valley has developed into the premiere wine region in the US in the last forty years. Beginning with the break up of Inglenook in 1965 things started changing. Robert Mondavi opened his winery and one after anotherothers followed suit. Today Highway 29 is a veritable winery row and the Napa Valley has gone from one wine growing region to 14 and soon to be 15 with the addition of Calistoga as an Appellation.

In 1976 the blind tasting in Paris brought notoriety to the Napa… Continue

Wine Blog Awards

Well it seems that there are many bloggers out there that are upset about these wine blog awards.

I am surprised that so many are so competitive about these awards that Tom made up to give some credit to those that are winners.

Personally, I do this blog because I love it and I do not worry too much about being awarded. My readers are a reward in themselves, I never thought anyone would read my articles. I did this blog to retain and gain clients that want to do wine… Continue

Mark, abdi is short for Adiel, which in arabic, means "He who loves God". In Hebrew, I understand it means "slave of God". I look forward to meeting you in the near future. Are you coming out to Wine 2.0 in NY on Sept. 18th?

Hi Mark, It is pretty land out there. We can see Sugarloaf and Spring Mountain from the vineyard. We grow 55 acres of cabernet sauvignon along with 1000 vines of petit verdot. Some of the 21 blocks are planted up and down the ridge and some blocks are terraced and follow the contours of the land. The terraces have vines planted on the inside & outside of the rows.

Hello!
