It goes like this for me...I had a retail store front several years ago. My business was geared more specifically to tourist because I had some specialty local wines. It was almost like a dream to set up shop and hope there would be customers and a decent paycheck. It all started well until the town I was in started to dwindle. I stuck it out for about 2 1/2 years and decided to call it quits. In FL, at my location, (which was mostly foot traffic) most people do not want to be out in the hot summer. So number one, my bus was very seasonal, six months on, six months off with traffic. So, I would say, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION is VERY important. But with LOCATION usually comes very pricey rents. When there were numbers of people in town, I would do great, mostly because I had some really great products. But low numbers brought very low sales.
Now, I am not here to burst your bubble and give you any negative advice...I am just telling you what my business WAS like. I have a different wine related business now, much lower overhead. I am glad I am not paying rent in this economy. There is a lot of competition in the business these days, everyone thinks there is a ton of money in wine. Please feel free to ask me any other questions. Again, please understand, it might all be based upon location. I do wish you the best in your venture. Wayne

Looking to buy cheap wine for China
