The Voice of the Wine Industry

FTC chimes in on blogging, to the tune of $11K!

FTC has created a provision aimed at curtailing blogging shills who blog just to generate buzz or money from brands. The ruling, written up by Wired Magazine, has implications for blogger recieving samples from the wine industry. Head over to the Wired Magazine article and give it a read. It certainly starts the discussion of to whom, what, and when samples are appropriate.

I do not get free wine but I would not have a problem saying it was a free sample to get free wine.

Oh and let me add, he is amazed that the FTC is "picking" at the bloggers and not giving the same ruling to "traditional" media.

When I am not the Wild Walla Walla Wine Woman, by day I am mild and meek and work for a team of six attorneys. One of the partners can hardly wait to sink his teeth into some legal disclaimers for me. He is thinking of one disclaimer in particular that said, "Yes, I kiss ass for free wine."

True, but they're the government and the money they "spent" on proving it employs people and that makes them happy. ;-)

$11K wouldn't begin to cover the money they'd need to spend to *prove* one of those violations... :-P
