Wow, I would love to hear about the James Beard awards! I'll be out of town this weekend, but I'll email you via OWC with my cell phone number if I can help you.
Have you made it out our way yet? I have another winery for you to consider consulting for your questions regarding growing Riesling, Lakewood Vineyards in Watkins Glen, NY.
I just participated in a consumer wine judging event this weekend and Lakewood Vineyards won Best of Class for Riesling and Double Gold (unanimous votes for Gold among the panel) for Riesling and Dry Riesling.
If I can get you any other information, let me know!
Melissa
Always enjoy a complement - thanks, Rusty
I am annoyed with their "Cabernet" .... its 55% Merlot! They really could have called it something else...
You do have a visit to Vintage NY on your NYC itinerary, yes?

That sounds great, Riesling is one of my favorites. From what I have read, I would suggest speaking with Morten Hallgren at Ravines. He has a rich background in winemaking, and the Ravines Wine Cellars 2006 Riesling was just recognized as a favorite of Lenn Thompson at LENNDEVOURS http://lennthompson.typepad.com/lenndevours/2008/04/ravine-wine-cel.html
Another top Riesling producer with a long history in the Finger Lakes is Dr. Konstantin Frank. His grandson Frederick Frank is the winemaker now and recent accolades include being recently named "The Greatest Wine Producer in the Atlantic Northeast" by Wine Report for four years in a row. http://drfrankwines.com/drf2_article.taf?_type=&_function=detail&gz_id=167
Please let me know if I can help in any other way and thanks for thinking of me!
