Profile

Company Name
Ackerman Family Vineyards
How would you classify yourself in the wine trade?
Winery
Where are you located?
Napa Valley, CA
About my company:
We are a small boutique winery located in the eastern hills off of the Silverado Trail in Napa. We have been making wine for ourselves since 1995 but decided to go commercial in October 2007 since so many of our wine friends liked what we were producing for ourselves. We released our 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon last fall with only 300 cases produced. We make a Cab that doesn't have towering alcohols so it will not compete with food, but rather, compliment it. We like wines that age well but are drinkable now -- we actually drink our 1995 through 1997 for ourselves right now! The 2003 Cab is a full-bodied, 100% Cab that has been very well-received at recent pourings. Main thing is that we are having fun and enjoying the process of meeting new people who appreciate our wine!
What you want to get from participating in OWC?
Meeting other wine producers as well as having conversations with consumers about the how's and why's of winemaking and grape-growing here in Napa!
About Me:
I am a co-owner of Ackerman Family Vineyards along with my husband, Bob. I had been in the technology world for several years and then, more recently, have been working in the non-profit sector here in Napa since 1999. I was Chairman of Copia: The American Center for Wine, Food and the Arts for three years and now am serving as Chairman of the Napa Valley Community Foundation. I travel a lot, speak on various philanthropic and wine-related topics and love to ride horses in Wyoming when I can!

I am currently in Jackson, WY where we just concluded the Jackson Hole Wine Auction Saturday night. We were asked to pour our 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon on Friday at the Taste of Jackson Hole which featured premium vintners and chefs serving about 500 people. We had a blast and made many new friends, many of whom came back several times bringing other friends with them to sample our wine. All in all, it was an honor to be asked to pour at this event as a "new" winery. Several Napa folks were at the auction, including Shafer, Harlan Estate, Arietta and others. Don't miss the next auction in 2010!

Hi Lauren!

Welcome to OWC! Paul mentioned he saw you had joined and I'm glad you did. I'd love to setup a time to speak live to introduce myself and pick your brain a bit on COPIA and other topics.

Cheers!

Terrific! I will make sure you have a synopsis of what we could explore to give Garry more possibilities to consider. A truly exciting time for COPIA.

Thanks for you comment on my page. I agree with you about Garry. I have written to Joel, "Head Consort", about convening a group of OWCers to brainstorm about Web 2.0 options for enhancing COPIA in its next phase of growth. We would then submit our ideas to Mr. McGuire for his consideration. I believe this is a most suitable role for our new organization to play. Joel agrees.
